Baccarat Help
Baccarat starts with placing bets. You're betting on which hand you'll think will get a point total closest to nine. You can bet on the player's hand or the banker's. You can even choose to bet on a tie.

The banker has something called the "shoe." It's a special box that holds the decks of cards to be dealt. Each person receives two cards. The player gets the first and second cards, while the banker is dealt the second and forth.

Each card has a specific point value. Aces count for one point. Numbered cards from two to nine are worth their face value. Tens and face cards are worth nothing.

Players hit on totals of five points or less. They usually stand on totals of six or seven.

If a player decides to draw a third card the dealer has a set of very specific rules to follow.

Banker has: Player's third card is: Banker action:
0, 1, 2 Draws third card
3 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 0 Draws third card
4 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 Draws third card
5 4, 5, 6, 7 Draws third card
6 6,7 Draws third card
7, 8, 9 Stands

When the total of the first two cards dealt reaches double digits, the first digit is always dropped. For example, if a pair of sixes is dealt, the total is 12. The one is dropped and the new total becomes two.

It is possible to be dealt something called a "natural" hand. That's when the player's first two cards total eight or nine points. A natural hand will win, unless there is a tie. In the event that neither the player or the banker have natural hands, then each must take another hit.

If the hand you bet on wins, the payout is even money. Winning bets on the banker have a five per cent commission that's withheld from the payout. In order to win a bet in the case of a tie, both hands must have matching totals. A winning bet on a tie pays eight to one, but all bets made on the player or banker are not taken or paid.
